John Woo’s 1986 crime film redefined Hong Kong action cinema by fusing wuxia ethics with urban fatalism. Ti Lung, Leslie Cheung, and Chow Yun-fat play three men bound by blood, betrayal, and bullets. Its influence on 'heroic bloodshed' is foundational; its emotional logic remains uncompromising.
John Woo’s 1989 Hong Kong action film follows a professional assassin who, after accidentally blinding a nightclub singer, pledges to fund her corneal transplant — a promise that draws him into lethal conflict with both triads and police. Stylised, morally austere, and formally rigorous, it treats violence as ritual and loyalty as sacred debt. Shot by Peter Pau and scored by Lowell Lo, it stars Chow Yun-fat, Sally Yeh, and Danny Lee.
