Cruel Gun Story
Takumi Furukawa · 1964
Takumi Furukawa’s 1964 Cruel Gun Story follows ex-convict Joji Togawa as he leads a heist for a yakuza boss, only to be betrayed and drawn into escalating violence. Starring Joe Shishido and Chieko Matsubara, it is a tightly wound crime film grounded in moral exhaustion rather than glamour or catharsis — its power lies in its restraint, its downfall in its late departure from that discipline.
