The Triplets of Belleville
Sylvain Chomet · 2003
The Triplets of Belleville follows an elderly Frenchwoman who reshapes her life around her grandson's obsessive cycling career, then pursues him across an invented city, an amalgam of New York, Montreal and Quebec City, after gangsters kidnap him mid-Tour de France. Sylvain Chomet's first feature, told almost entirely through pantomime, sound and song, cost $8 million, took $14.8 million worldwide, and earned two Academy Award nominations, including the first for a PG-13 animated feature.
