Blue Heron
Sophy Romvari · 2025
Blue Heron is Sophy Romvari’s semi-autobiographical debut feature, following a Hungarian immigrant family’s move to Vancouver Island in the late 1990s amid their eldest son’s escalating behavioural crisis. Told through overlapping timelines and anchored by Eylul Guven and Amy Zimmer as young and adult Sasha, it uses restrained performances, Maya Bankovic’s hushed cinematography, and a layered soundscape to explore how childhood perception absorbs trauma without comprehension. Released in 2025 after festival acclaim, it prioritises sensory fidelity over exposition, rendering memory as atmosphere rather than narrative.
