Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) is a Russ Meyer–Roger Ebert collaboration: a knowingly excessive, tonally unstable parody of Valley of the Dolls and Hollywood itself. Made quickly on the Fox lot, it blends teen melodrama, rock musical, exploitation thriller and moral fable — all delivered with poker-faced solemnity. Its cult status rests on its deliberate incoherence, not despite it.
