Hodaka, a runaway sixteen-year-old scraping by in Tokyo, teams up with Hina, an orphaned girl who can part the rain with a prayer, to sell her ability as a paid service during an unusually long, disaster-scale downpour. Shinkai's follow-up to Your Name, again scored by Radwimps, pushes his interest in weather and disaster further than its predecessor by making the couple's happiness and the city's survival mutually exclusive, and then letting a teenager choose.
