Farewell Amor
Ekwa Msangi · 2020
Farewell Amor follows an Angolan family reuniting in Brooklyn after a 17-year separation. Told in three interwoven chapters — from the perspectives of father Walter, mother Esther, and teenage daughter Sylvia — the film observes their tentative, often wordless reconnection in a cramped apartment. Directed by Ekwa Msangi, it prioritises behavioural detail over exposition, using subtle performance, naturalistic lighting, and precise editing to explore migration, memory, and the quiet labour of rebuilding intimacy.
