The Wiz
Sidney Lumet · 1978
Sidney Lumet’s 1978 musical The Wiz recasts The Wizard of Oz in Harlem and a decaying, stylised New York City, starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. Though critically panned on release for its script, pacing, and direction, its bold production design, choreography, and performances have cemented its status as a culturally vital, if uneven, cult classic.
