Fish Tank
Andrea Arnold · 2009
Andrea Arnold’s 2009 drama follows Mia, a volatile 15-year-old on a London council estate, as she navigates neglect, burgeoning desire and fleeting connection with her mother’s boyfriend. Shot on location in Tilbury with non-professional lead Katie Jarvis, it uses natural light, diegetic music and chronological structure to sustain an unflinching, physically precise portrait of adolescence shaped by class and silence.
