Directed by Allen and Albert Hughes in their debut, it avoids moral framing, instead tracing how environment, inheritance, and constrained choice shape a life. With Tyrin Turner, Larenz Tate, and Jada Pinkett Smith, and shot by Lisa Rinzler, it builds tension through restraint — in performance, editing, and score — culminating in a conclusion that feels inevitable, not sensational.
