Room 999
Lubna Playoust · 2023
Room 999 (2023) is a French documentary directed by Lubna Playoust, filmed in a single hotel room with thirteen international filmmakers — including Cronenberg, Wenders, Farhadi and Ramsay — speaking freely over one day. Shot by Marine Atlan and scored by Pierre Rousseau, it offers no narration, no subtitles for overlapping dialogue, no biographical context. Its rigour lies in restraint: fixed framing, natural light, unedited duration. It captures conversation not as argument but as collective thinking-in-motion — hesitant, contradictory, embodied. A film about presence, not position.
