This Is Not A Burial, It's A Resurrection

This Is Not A Burial, It's A Resurrection is a 2019 Lesotho drama in Sesotho, directed and written by Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese. It follows Mantoa, an 80-year-old widow preparing for death as her village faces forced resettlement for a dam. Shot with formal restraint and deep cultural specificity, it frames grief, land, and ritual as interwoven acts of resistance. Starring Mary Twala Mhlongo, it won Best Director, Best Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, and the Golden Crow-pheasant at the International Film Festival of Kerala.
