Il sorpasso
Dino Risi · 1962
Set over Ferragosto 1962, Il sorpasso follows Bruno Cortona — a charismatic, reckless Roman — as he sweeps timid law student Roberto Mariani into a spontaneous coastal drive. Over two days, Roberto sheds inhibition under Bruno’s influence, adopting his mannerisms, his risks, and ultimately his fate. Directed by Dino Risi and shot by Alfio Contini, the film uses real-time pacing, sparse editing, and Riz Ortolani’s brassy score to trace the slow, irreversible transfer of worldview — not as lesson, but as contagion.
